What are the three main features of supported employment? Supported employment is a program for people with disabilities that focuses on finding and keeping competitive, meaningful work. It has three main features, the first being that jobs provided are competitively paid so disabled employees get the same wages as their non-disabled colleagues. Second, supported employment involves fully incorporated work settings where disabled employees have the opportunity to share tasks, socialize, and work together with coworkers. Lastly, disabled employees have access to continuous assistance based on their personal needs, such as additional help or modifications of work responsibilities. Supported employment is an innovative form of contemporary labor that makes sure individuals with disabilities can seek competitive and exciting job opportunities with independence and respect. ICAN California Abilities Network aids job applicants with disabilities in their search for purposeful work through our supported work programs. We are dedicated to helping disabled employees access and maintain gratifying employment that is both competitively paid and a good fit with their unique skills. https://ift.tt/n2kN7t4

ICAN California Abilities Network launched in 2012. Our goal is to serve individuals with disabilities and their families through life skills training, career services, and social programming. The "I CAN" statement translates to "I CAN work," "I CAN have friends," and "I CAN learn and contribute to my community."

The organization was founded in 1975 by Pat Hammond, a teacher for physically disabled individuals. The first name was Acampar, and it offered an engaging, purposeful, and exciting summer camp program.
In 1996, Scott Elliott came to be the Director and broadened the program to introduce supported employment services for people with physical disabilities across California.

Ever since, we have launched our life skills day program and Paid Internship Program. Today, ICAN is glad to have moved into its own permanent home in Torrance, CA, for more growth and development.

With constant contributions from the community and devoted volunteers, ICAN continues to offer important resources and services for people with physical disabilities. Visit our website to learn more regarding our organization.
